I want to get my hands dirty
I had high hopes for a garden this year. We plotted out the land, tore out the grass, etc., but, like so much in our lives, we procrastinated. Now I'm hoping for little seedlings when I should have full-sized starters to put in the ground.
*sigh*
It's so warm, already.
I spent some time out there today, using one of those twisty tools I borrowed from a friend to fluff up the soil and kill the plants that are still in the planked off area that's supposed to be a garden.
My friend, the only person I know with any practical experience with growing things, pretty much told me that this year will suck and that nothing is going to go the way that I want. She let me borrow a book and answered a bunch of questions for me.
She opened my eyes to different ways structure my plants. Like, it never occurred to me to use flowers in a vegetable garden. Now my brain is bursting with new ideas. And the book she loaned me is right up my alley. It's got the perfect amount of information, without being dry and unreadable. And the lovely pictures. No gardening book should lack pictures.
Maybe I shouldn't be taking this on, but it's too late. I'm looking forward to growing things. I'm even thinking about getting houseplants. Right now I have an orchid and a huge peace lily that Adam and I both hate. Ha. And he got a corn plant that's (probably) dead. I can't remember the last time either one of us watered the poor thing. It's in a room I never use.
So, yeah, I better start learning something about this. I've never had a green thumb before, so I never felt very interested in learning about gardening or keeping plants. I'm way behind the learning curve on this.
