This is what it looks like on this end
Yesterday as I was getting off work, a customer came in. He ordered a drink. I was going to make it when he said, “Is your name Chessy?”
I answered, “Yes.” I stood behind the counter, staring. It took me a while to place him, which is kind of sad. It was my old friend, Dave. I made his drink, clocked out, and we went outside to have one of those awkward, “What have you been up to?” conversations where both parties kind of stutter answers and feel like they have to justify what they have been doing now that we are both adults. See, some of my favorite outrageous stories from my misspent youth involved Dave. He was part of the group that I used to party with, get in trouble with, be creative with, and now we are both in our thirties and not much else is going on.
We talked about his new job. That was just odd because he never really held a ‘real’ job before. He is a teacher, now. I guess it fits.
Dave and Adam were friends back when Adam and I weren’t really friends. So, of course, we talked about marriage and the hubs.
It was just, strange. Trying to talk to him about Mazzy was hard. He never met her. He only knew me crazy, so I don’t think he was entirely secure about the idea of me being a mother in the first place. It seemed like a bad idea. Of course, ten years ago it would have been a bad idea.
At any rate, it was nice to have a visit with a piece of my past.
In other news, I am still writing. Sort of. I have a new prompt and I am looking forward to putting words on paper. Right now I am still flushing out the idea, so it is all kind of ethereal, but at least I have notes! And character names! And a generalized idea of what is going to happen!!!
Once I get something down, I will post it over at LJ, which has become my writing journal. That way I can post it for those that want to read it, but I don’t have to share it with the entire bloggerverse.
I am doing my best to embrace my inner geek. I have been reading Wil Wheaton’s blog. I have added new people to my Twitter. I want to know what EVERYone is doing, apparently. But only if you sound cool. I have picked up watching one of my soap operas again. I am jotting down quick bits of poetry about people and places, hoping to make them laugh. I wrote one for my manager yesterday that was pretty funny.
By the way, I hate that it is inappropriate to write about your job. Most of my life is centered around my job and the people that I work with on a daily basis. I would have a plethora of freaking hysterical stories if I could write about work. We are a funny lot at the Coffee Mines.
Today I have plans to visit with my sister-in-law, Samantha, and her fetus, Seth. After we hang out I will be graced by the presence of Val. We will craft some things. I suppose. I am hoping to give crochet another chance. I miss having projects that I like. Well, I miss completing a project.
Other than that, my day will be spent cleaning with the occasional bout of writing on the computer.
Envy me.
